A Simon & Halbig African American Bisque Doll marked 1078 Germany, Simon & Halbig S.H. #6. She’s 16 inches tall with a socket bisque head, black wig, sleep glass eyes, pierced ears, feathered eyebrows, open-mouth with square cut teeth and a composition ball jointed body. Her 1800s style dress, bonnet and undies may be replacements? Reportedly, Doll makers in Germany were known for their Bisque Doll heads. Simon & Halbig was founded in 1839 and began making bisque dolls in 1869 in their two factories in Grafenhain and Hidburghausen near Thuringia Germany. This Doll was manufactured by Simon & Halbig cira the late 1800s. She was featured in Yvonne Ellis book Collectible African American Dolls published by Collector Books in 2008.
